Biography
David Himes has been composing for performing groups in the Reading area since 1996. He has been commissioned by Vox Philia, Berks Sinfonietta, Reading Choral Society, Fall Festival of the Arts, Kutztown University World Percussion Ensemble, Berks Youth Chorus (formerly BCCC), Trinity Lutheran Church, Immanuel United Church of Christ, Hain's United Church of Christ and private individuals. He has written for adult choruses and choirs, children's choruses and choirs, vocal soloists, vocal quartets, full orchestra and small instrumental ensembles.
David received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1986 and his Master of Music in Music Composition from West Chester University in 1996. While at West Chester, he studied with Larry Nelson and Robert Maggio. Since receiving these degrees, David has attended Music03 at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, the Composer's Forum at Bard College, the Choral Composer's Forum at Lehigh University and completed the Electronic Orchestration class with Berklee Online Courses. David has taught all levels of K-12 music in public schools and has been a performer, conductor and singer in the Reading area since 1986. He retired from teaching at Northeast Middle School in the Reading School District in June of 2019. His experience with teaching instruments has given him an extensive knowledge of instrument capabilities and ranges. He also keeps a personal music studio at his home in Sinking Spring.
